Spicy Noodle House

Incredible!

From the moment you walk in, the owner welcomes you with open arms. The menu is very diverse, with different soups and sauces applied to a wide variety of bases. Chicken, bean cake, beef, lotus leaf sticky rice, hot pots, noodle soups and birds nests, you name it they have it.
We ordered a hot pot and chili bean cake. The hot pot came to the table still sizzling! What a sight and aroma! The bean cake wasn't what I expected, but it was just as good. Very spicy without being overpowering. The lotus leaf sticky rice was stuffed with a thin layer of meat reminiscent of a Jamaican meat patty.

All in all, it was quite a pleasant experience the quality and quantity of food more than made up for the wait to be waited on. As an additional testament to the quality of this establishment, the owner of Charisma was eating there while we were there. Two thumbs up!

Wall St. Drive In, Winnipeg MB

1184 Portage AvenueWinnipegMB R3G 0T4Canada‎ -(204) 788-4844

We drove up to the Wall St. Drive In on a Saturday after a long day of shopping. The menu items were attractively written up on a menu above the grill in chalk.

After a few minutes of looking over the menu (all hamburgers for the most part) we decided on a bacon cheeseburger and a cheeseburger. Fairly straight-forward. The cashier points at a sign and asks us what we want on it. Okay, I'll get this and that, generic condiments.

Impressively the burgers are cooked on a fire and briquette grill. Unimpressively, the patties of meat are frozen patties that are imbibed with a faint freezer-burned garlic taste. Even Salisbury House uses fresh meat.

A burger joint that sells frozen patties? Yep that's right. It might seem like a cost-saver, but when you think about it, you can save thirty cents per burger and serve ten customers a day, or you can spend thirty cents per burger and serve 300 customers a day.

My advice to this place? Get some real meat. You'll be thankful you did.

Welcome to Winnipeg!

I eat at a lot of restaurants.

Recently I had a rather nasty experience at a local restaurant.

I'll be posting my food reviews to this blog forevermore!
