Wall St. Drive In, Winnipeg MB

1184 Portage AvenueWinnipegMB R3G 0T4Canada‎ -(204) 788-4844

We drove up to the Wall St. Drive In on a Saturday after a long day of shopping. The menu items were attractively written up on a menu above the grill in chalk.

After a few minutes of looking over the menu (all hamburgers for the most part) we decided on a bacon cheeseburger and a cheeseburger. Fairly straight-forward. The cashier points at a sign and asks us what we want on it. Okay, I'll get this and that, generic condiments.

Impressively the burgers are cooked on a fire and briquette grill. Unimpressively, the patties of meat are frozen patties that are imbibed with a faint freezer-burned garlic taste. Even Salisbury House uses fresh meat.

A burger joint that sells frozen patties? Yep that's right. It might seem like a cost-saver, but when you think about it, you can save thirty cents per burger and serve ten customers a day, or you can spend thirty cents per burger and serve 300 customers a day.

My advice to this place? Get some real meat. You'll be thankful you did.
